Graduates, first off congratulations! Regardless if this isn’t the idea you originally had in mind for a ceremony, the important thing is that you have the document and memories of all your hard work, and you have accomplished a major goal. I want you to know that while it’s great to have a plan for your future, it’s also ok to not always have it all figured out. I will encourage you to use this time wisely to figure out what you really can envision yourself doing for the rest of your life and what makes you happy. Now is the time to drown out the voices of others because while they mean well and love us, our loved ones don’t always know what’s in our hearts to do so channel that inner you, and use it to fuel you in making your decisions and remember to keep going even when it gets tough.
My question to you all now at this point in your lives would be this.
How many of you know what is it you want to do in life?
I know for me, from the time I was a little girl, I think I changed my mind on what I wanted to be in life about a million times.
I want to take this opportunity to speak to those individuals that are either unaware of what they want to do in life, or those individuals that are confused.
I want you to know that it’s ok to be uncertain sometimes.
I want you to know that it’s ok to ignore the voices of your loved ones in order to dig deep and figure out what makes you happy. As much as our friends/family love us, they can’t understand what God places inside of you, and how exactly you will live out your calling and purpose in life. I’m not saying that you should of ignore their guidance and the direction they give you, but if you know your heart is pulling you in a different direction then you should express that. Don’t be afraid to respectfully speak up for yourself and stay committed to the things that your heart desires.
The best thing you can do for yourself is to stay true to you and learn to adapt to rejection and setbacks because there will be plenty, but you just stay the course.
I started off being recognized in school and at home for my grades and so much more so when I went off to college I never expected so many distractions, setbacks, and trials.
I’ve experienced plenty of rejection from job after job that started to make me feel like I wasn’t good enough.
After going through so many No’s, or being told that I didn’t have enough experience, I found myself lost and confused time after time.
If you are unsure and you want guidance on some of the things you can do, especially during this time while things have slowed down a bit, I have a few suggestions for you.
1). First off, if you are spiritual, pray about the things that you want clarity in: Believe that this will transpire.
2). Write down the things that you love or things you would be interested in learning more about.
3). Focus on the one thing that you could see yourself doing and learn as much as possible about it. If you research and find that it’s not for you, be ok with that and move down the list.
4). Surround yourself around individuals that are both like-minded and also are a little further ahead of you to keep you motivated.
5). The most important part of this process is understanding that you don’t have to be perfect to succeed in life. You don’t have to do what everyone else is doing. You don’t have to have things all figured out to be great.
Success is Not measured by the amount of money you have, but by the determination of giving your all in everything that you do.
Don’t be afraid of rejection
Don’t be afraid of starting over
Don’t be afraid of being the only person that seems to not have things going on.
Even if you go through a plethora of jobs, career choices, and setbacks just continue to re-invent yourself and understand that you were created for a reason. Even if it takes you half of your life to figure out exactly what that is, Just don’t give up.
*Please stay encouraged during this time of uncertainty because we are all going through this together. Don’t be afraid to reach off for help or guidance during difficult times.
You can find other blog post from me here on my website, and an audio extension of my blog on Spotify and the Anchor App by typing in Speaking Life with Conniea P. I will have a YouTube channel up as well soon with the same name if you prefer more of a visual. Thanks for all the support and remember we are in this together!
